Royalton Riviera Cancun Wedding Photos

I’m completely speechless! I’m so blown away by how perfectly these photos captured all the love and joy we both felt on our wedding day. I cannot thank you enough for giving us priceless keepsakes to have for the rest of our lives. I hope you know we loved having you there with us, photography aside. You are absolutely part of the family now ? I don’t think I could sing your praises enough!!

Where do I start with this wedding at the stunning Royalton Riviera resort close to Cancun in Mexico?!

Well, let’s start at the beginning. Two years ago I was asked to photograph a wedding at Chateau Ramezay in Montreal. That was a super-intimate wedding with just eight guests, two of whom were Melissa & Rob. Rob was the brother of the bride and he, Melissa & I instantly got on well. It was a few months later that they emailed me saying “We both loved your style and the pictures from Kelly and Juan’s wedding that we were hoping you might be available to shoot ours.” They then mentioned it would be in Mexico, originally at the Dreams Playa Mujeres resort but later moved to the fantastic Royalton Riviera.

Having your wedding reception at a resort like the Royalton Riviera means that, even for a large wedding, all your guests can stay in the same hotel and make their trip into a few days in the sunshine, rather than travelling just for the wedding day itself. For Melissa & Rob’s wedding, this also gave guests the chance to meet and get to know each other before the wedding day, partly thanks to a welcome meal on the evening before. This only added to the relaxed and fun vibe that the couple wanted for their wedding. And I hope that vibe is clear to see from the photos.

The wedding ceremony itself was held on the sky terrace overlooking the ocean. Many couples have the ceremony down close to the beach but this felt more intimate and there were no onlookers or old men in Speedos in the background!

The weather on the day could not have been more perfect either. It was warm and sunny but with a small amount of thin cloud that, for me, made the photography so much better. No nasty harsh shadows from the Mexican sun and the temperature never got uncomfortable.

This was one of those weddings where I feel like I made new friends, not only with the couple but with their guests too. Honestly, I was only in Mexico for three days and I would happily have stayed longer to hang out with everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the wedding but also really loved getting to know everyone who was there.

I can’t thank Melissa and Rob enough for trusting me to capture such an amazing day for them. They rock!
