La Scena Montreal Wedding

Since we moved to Montreal from England in 2014 I’ve been keen to shoot weddings in some of the city’s less traditional venues. And Scena was high on my list.

So I was really chuffed when Alicia & Tom contacted me about their wedding at that very venue. It’s a slick, modern building right on the water in the Old Port. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a very industrial vibe, it has a very cool yet classy vibe to it that I love.

It’s also fantastic from a photography point of view. Plenty of light thanks to those windows I mentioned, lots of space, a mezzanine to get those shots of the room from above. And at night, the lights of the city work as a dramatic backdrop from outside.

Coincidentally, Alicia & Tom live in my home country, currently residing in London. It seems that, if you Google something like “Montreal wedding photographers” from the UK, we come up much higher than if you’re searching here in Canada. Frustrating but it does mean we’ve booked more than a couple of weddings with couples who live in the UK but are getting married in Montreal or Quebec.

Alicia & Tom had an amazing wedding, as you’ll see… The perfect mix of tradition and modern with plenty of their personalities stamped on the day. They had some help from the lovely people at Hera Mariages and the room looked phenomenal.

The ceremony was at the impressive Church of Saint-Leon-De-Westmount. Again I had the luxury of being able to use the balcony to get that wide shot of this beautiful building.

They then headed over to Scena for great food, good company, a very cool band and one of the best DJs I’ve heard at a Montreal wedding so far. And, as an ex-DJ myself, I’m kinda picky!

This was such a fun wedding. We were hoping to do their engagement shoot back in London before the main event but timings didn’t allow it so we did a post-wedding shoot there instead. More of that later…
