El Cortijo de los Caballos Wedding

Amazing Steve. We absolutely love them. Thank you so much!!

Lori + Danny

I first met Lori when I photographed Katie + Simon’s amazing wedding in South Africa back in 2015. We got on really well, and in 2020, Danny & Lori booked me to photograph their wedding at the incredible El Cortijo de los Caballos near Málaga in Spain.

The wedding took place at the end of August, and I got to hang out with the couple and their guests for 3 days. The day before the wedding, I did a family shoot with Katie & Simon who were guests at the wedding, followed closely by me locking my keys inside my hire car! Thankfully that was the only mishap of the weekend, and everything else went beautifully!

Everything on the wedding day took place at El Cortijo de los Caballos, which just added to the relaxed, laid-back vibe and allowed everyone to truly enjoy the day. The weather was perfect – sunny but not too hot – and, as you’ll see from the photos, the whole day was filled with laughter and emotion. The wedding ceremony even saw an appearance from Lori + Danny’s beloved dog, Elvis, albeit in cardboard form.

Lori wore a stunning, sparkly dress that kept reflecting the sunshine and Danny looked supercool in his Pretty Green shirt, bringing a little of Liam Gallagher’s spirit to the wedding day.

And Frank Turner even sent a video message for the couple wishing them best wishes for the wedding. Lori’s a huge fan!

El Cortijo de los Caballos Photos

El Cortijo de los Caballos is an idyllic wedding venue with stunning grounds, beautiful architecture and two swimming pools. And yes, the bride & groom did jump in the pool at the end of the day 🙂

We took a few couple portraits inside the grounds of the venue but also took a walk down the dirt road outside to capture more of that Spanish landscape as the sun began to go down. Then there was a surprise for the guests as a mariachi band serenaded the bride & groom into the wedding breakfast, which was held on the lawn inside El Cortijo de los Caballos.

The speeches were hilarious and emotional, the food was top notch and the party was predictably off the charts! Good times were had!

The wedding planner was Annette Johnson from Rachel Rose Weddings, and she was honestly one of the loveliest and yet super-organized planners I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

The couple had Lee Townsend playing the music during the cocktail hour, and both Lori and Danny grabbed the mic to do some impromptu karaoke. Everyone rocked it!

It was great working with videographer James Harker who flew in from England. You can see his fantastic video below the photos.

The flowers were provided by Urbn Bloom.

The day after the wedding, I got to hang out with everyone one last time for an afternoon pool party with more music, sunshine, laughter and great food. I think if we were gonna get married again, Evelyne and I might just have our wedding at El Cortijo de los Caballos. It really was an amazing place for a wedding.

Massive thanks to the legends that are Lori & Danny for having me there to document their time in sunny Spain. It was mega!

El Cortijo de los Caballos is a truly unique (wedding) venue is one of the very few authentic Cortijos left in the Marbella area and is situated in a quiet valley near the picturesque white village of Benahavís and 10 minutes from Marbella and Puerto Banús, it is also just 1 kilometre from the main road and less than 5-minute drive to the beautiful beaches of the Costa Del Sol in Spain.

Its secluded location makes it possible to truly escape the crowds at this relaxing and tranquil retreat whilst still being able to enjoy the nightlife of Puerto Banús and Marbella.

El Cortijo de los Caballos has been renovated from the original equestrian centre into an ideal villa with self-contained cottages, retaining the eclectic mix of Spanish and Moroccan décor which was chosen to suit the building’s traditional Moorish architecture. The Cortijo was sympathetically converted from an equestrian centre some 40 years ago by its present owners to include 11 Casitas and a 3 bedroom Cottage, sleeping a total of 28 guests plus extra beds.

About Steve

I’m a Brit living in Montreal with my wife, Evelyne and our three boys, Elliott, Isaac and Jonas! Evelyne and I met in the Alps in 2003 when Evelyne thought she was a cool snowboarder and I thought I was a superstar DJ. We got married in 2007 in Cornwall, England and moved to Canada in 2014. I photographed my first wedding in 2006 and have now shot almost 500 weddings, mostly in Canada & the UK, but I absolutely love travelling anywhere in the world. I enjoyed it when I started but love my job now more than ever.
