This Hotel Nelligan wedding was unlike others that I’ve shot at the venue before. Very different.
Yukari & Henry chose to have a very intimate wedding on the roof at Hotel Nelligan. Actually on the area outside their penthouse suite! And when I say intimate, I mean intimate! Just THREE guests: Henry’s parents and brother.
They actually had a much larger wedding in Tokyo a couple of months later so this was just the Montreal part of their wedding celebrations. Tokyo is top of my wishlist as far as destinations go but alas I never got to shoot that wedding for them. One day!
The day in Montreal was even more special though, as it was also Yukari’s birthday!
We met at Nelligan before the ceremony and made time for a portrait session around Old Montreal. I love shooting around this part of Montreal as it has so much character but also so much variety. It always makes for great photos and I am forever discovering cool new locations to shoot in.
Yukari & Henry were great fun to hang out with and trusted me when I suggested random locations, although when I took them down a gritty alleyway with a mouse dead in a mousetrap (!) we quickly agreed that maybe we should move on!
The ceremony was simple yet perfect, with that backdrop of Montreal’s skyline making the whole thing feel somehow more significant.

I’m a Brit living in Montreal with my wife, Evelyne and our three boys, Elliott, Isaac and Jonas! Evelyne and I met in the Alps in 2003 when Evelyne thought she was a cool snowboarder and I thought I was a superstar DJ. We got married in 2007 in Cornwall, England and moved to Canada in 2014.
I photographed my first wedding in 2006 and have now shot almost 500 weddings, mostly in Canada & the UK, but I absolutely love travelling anywhere in the world. I enjoyed it when I started but love my job now more than ever.
