Jody & Dane
Ok, so sometimes this job is pretty damn cool!
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph weddings in beautiful destinations around the world, from Iceland to Thailand, Vegas to Lake Como. But what made this wedding in Positano, Italy so amazing was not the stunning location. It was the people!
Jody & Dane contacted me at the beginning of 2016 and I knew immediately that this wedding was going to be something pretty special. I also knew from our very first conversation that this was a couple I’d love hanging out with. And I wasn’t wrong!
I actually spent a few days in Positano with them and all their guests. We did an engagement session 3 days before the wedding – TAKE A LOOK – and then I photographed their rehearsal dinner and, the day before the main event, joined them on a yacht cruise around the Amalfi coastline. So much fun! It also meant that, by the wedding day, I’d got to know them a lot better and had hung out with almost all their guests. That connection adds to the relaxed vibe when I’m shooting and definitely helped us get more natural photos on the day.
On the wedding day the weather could not have been more perfect. There was a gorgeous breeze and a little cloud to avoid the harsh shadows that we would have otherwise had for their outdoor ceremony at Villa Oliviero. Jody and the girls got ready in one part of the venue while Dane and his boys hung out by the pool.
The couple chose to do a first look before their ceremony and things got emotional from then on. I love to capture people getting caught up in the emotions of such a significant occasion, and this wedding had that in spades. The ceremony itself was officiated by their good friends before cocktails on the terrace, dinner overlooking the ocean, some brilliant speeches (and a few more tears) and dancing all night long to their superb band and DJ.
For their portraits we didn’t have to go far at all to get a great variety of images, full of colour, and making the most of the magnificent backdrop that is the Amalfi Coast.
You can check out their slideshow at the bottom of this post but, in the meantime, here are a selection of my favourite photos from one of my favourite weddings ever!
Below is their slideshow from the wedding. Switch on HD and turn your speakers up!
